Sugar Beet: A Dream of Self-Sufficiency and Development

Sugar beet is a strategic industrial crop of great importance. According to last year’s data, approximately 10.6 million acres of sugar beet are cultivated globally, producing around 56.4 million tons of sugar. This accounts for 33% of the world’s total sugar production, making it the second-largest source of sugar worldwide.

Sugar beet thrives in moderate to cold climates, typically grown between latitudes 30° and 60° North, which makes it a staple crop in Europe and North America.

However, Egypt’s diverse climate allows for the cultivation of both temperate and tropical crops, making it possible to grow sugar beet in various regions across the country.
