Guide to the Cultivation and Production of Cruciferous Vegetables in Egypt

It is called the cruciferous family because the flower structure consists of four petals arranged perpendicularly, resembling a cross. This family includes several important vegetable crops, such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, turnip, Brussels sprouts, kohlrabi, radish, and arugula.

The crops in this family vary in their growth characteristics and the edible parts. For example, cabbage is grown for its heads, which are formed by tightly wrapped inner leaves around the terminal bud, while cauliflower is harvested for its flower buds before they open. Broccoli is cultivated for its edible flower clusters, which are still in the green bud stage, along with their thick, tender stems.
